Data provided by Big Local News. Data from the National Health Security Preparedness Index. The overall index is useful for examining a state’s readiness in dealing with any number of issues. There also are specific metrics that directly relate to states’ abilities to respond to the Coronavirus pandemic. With that in mind, we have pulled out and processed key metrics -- from preparedness for surge testing to evaluating how many people in each state have access to paid time off. M299	Risk-adjusted 30-day survival rate (percent) among Medicare beneficiaries hospitalized in the state for heart attack, heart failure, or pneumonia	This measure is for risk-standardized all-cause 30-day mortality rates for Medicare patients aged 65 and older who are hospitalized with a principal diagnosis of heart attack, heart failure, or pneumonia. All-cause mortality is defined as death from any cause within 30 days after the index admission. This is a measure of the state's public health and healthcare system's programs, staffing, and requirements which influence recovery or mortality from an illness severe enough to require hospitalization.
