The facility census was 115. Findings are: An observation on 06/04/19 at 12:00 PM of Nurse LPN H of medication administration for Resident 9 via PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy- a tube passed into a residents stomach through the abdominal wall to provide a means for feeding and medication administration when oral intake is inadequate) tube. LPN H checked the PEG tube for proper placement by aspiration of stomach contents with a 60 cc syringe the total amount of stomach contents aspirated was 210cc. Resident 9 had been eating lunch at the time of the aspiration. LPN H disposed of the stomach contents. Record review of the Feeding tube management policy dated 4/16/19 revealed; for Residual Procedures if the gastric residual volume 300 ml or less replace the entire residual volume obtained, Flush with 30 Ml water. Interview on 06/04/19 03:19 PM with the DON confirmed that if the residual with a tube feeding is less than 300 cc the residual is to be replaced not wasted. | 2020-09-01 |
