Findings include: A pressure ulcer treatment observation was conducted on (MONTH) 1, (YEAR) at 7:30 a.m., with the wound nurse (staff #25). Prior to beginning the wound treatment, the nurse was not observed to wash her hands or use sanitizer gel. Following the wound treatment, the nurse removed her gloves and cleansed several items and then exited the room and placed the items back into the cart. The nurse was not observed to wash or sanitize her hands. In an interview with the wound nurse (staff #25) on (MONTH) 2, (YEAR) at 2:33 p.m., she stated her regular procedure is to wash her hands or use an antibacterial gel before, during and after treatment. In an interview with the Director of Nursing (staff #129) on (MONTH) 2, (YEAR) at 2:46 p.m., he stated that the expectation of staff during wound treatments is to wash or sanitize hands before, during, and after wound care. Included in a policy titled, Pressure Ulcer Treatment it stated to wash hands before treatment and to wash and dry hands thoroughly after performing ordered treatment. | 2020-09-01 |
